What is STANAG 6001?

STANAG stands for STANDARDISATION AGREEMENT, which is an agreement involving all NATO-related areas from technology, equipment to training and language. The objective of STANAG is to provide efficient co-operation between NATO member nations.
Communication is a crucial element of effective co-operation and STANAG test checks language skills according to NATO standardization document which defines criteria and levels.
STANAG specifies the following language skill levels:

  • Level 1 Basic Elementary A2 - Corresponds to the “basic level” state language proficiency examination specialized in military language
  • Level 2 Fair Limited Working B1 - Corresponds to the “intermediate level” state language proficiency examination specialized in military language
